Ex Royal Marine Online Personal Trainer

Visit Home page for full details......found on additional menu options...how many reps should I do.

Learn about the reason behind the number of reps one should do of any given exercise.
Too many people start their training regimes in the wrong way and end up quitting or getting injured. You need to learn the principles behind the stages of training which start off with

Anatomical Adaptation
Muscular Endurance
Muscular Hypertrophy
Muscular Strength.

In the Royal Marines the training is geared around these principles although it is expected that a new recruit will already have mastered the anatomical adaptation phase. The weaker hopefuls will have been weened out on the PRMC (potential royal marine course) before the initial 32 weeks training starts allowing them to go home and master the basics. To a degree all compenents should be there ish for all starting recruits. Commando training is there to turn reasonably fit people into athletes. Surprisingly the Marines get a lot of county level athletes joining up, and often these already fit people do not make the grade. I had a junior level olympic hopeful swimmer on my PRMC and he failed the 3 mile run....simply because he hadn't done any running training. He assumed he would be good enough. I am sure if he had to swim the 3 miles he would have breezed it.

In the Marines more is needed than just being fit like the average gym goer and I would encourage anyone to train under these principles as well. These can be found on the website in more detail and are:

Flexibility
Endurance
Skill
Stamina
Strength
Speed
Power

These principles will create a well rounded athlete and are vital for all Marines. Royal Marines who leave commando training will have gained the fitness level of an international triathlete...if they finish that is.The same applies for any serious sports persons, footballers, etc.
